Hair Tales: Bay Rum

I just want my hair to grow a few more inches, is that too much to ask? I have now pinned my hopes on this Bay Rum Hair Tonic that I purchased yesterday. This product was bought up in general conversation with a work colleague and I immediately made note of it (alongside Sea Kelp tablets, which supposedly encourage hair growth, but I'm a bit wary about them). I found it amongst the men hair bits in Boots and for only £2.60 thought it was worth a shot. Apparently gypsy girls use it and from watching 'Big Fat Gypsy Weddings' I have always been a tad envious of their hair condition and length.

"Massage into scalp with fingertips. Comb and allow to dry naturally"

Sounds simple enough, so I'm more than happy to try this out. Although I am slightly unsure whether you are supposed to use it on wet or dry hair and google has been very unhelpful. So I have decided to try it on dry hair and then this evening I will wash my hair as normal and use good old Moroccan Oil before bed. The Bay Rum tonic smells quite manly, if that is a good way of putting it, not overpowering but it's quite a nice musky scent but not one I would want on my head if I was going out.

Today will be my first day of using it so I will keep you updated on my progress. Has anyone used this product before? Or anyone know of any other good hair growth products/techniques?

  1. Hold up!! i ask you NOT to apply this to your precious scalp!! I have a feeling that one of the main ingredients in this is going to be alcohol??
If so, that is only going to dry out your scalp and strip it of the nourishment it needs to grow healthy hair. My manager who is also a therapist taught me to treat your scalp like a flower bed/veg patch...it needs all the right things in the soil to grow eg, nourishment, hydration, balance, and stripping your hair with things like this wont give it enough strength to grow properly. You need things with stimulating oils in, such as peppermint, clove, cinnamon, and lots of hydrating things like coca butter/coconut oil. You need to give your scalp lots of love and stimulate hair growth by massaging it regularly i suggest with one of these products

I know im biased but people come into the shop and buy about 7 of these at a time because they claim it makes the hair grow strong and fast

I also used it and i swear thats how my hair got so long....

Please don't use that stuff on your scalp!! it sounds like it would smell nice though so use it on your skin!

    1. I swear whenever I'm about to do something potentially risky with my hair/face whatever you can sense this and let me know. It has something called 'alcohol denat' in which i'm guessing might be a drying factor?? I take it you have never heard of this Bay Rum stuff?

Will have to purchase some Lushy bits, I have that R&B hair moisturiser. I'm not worried about thickness, as my hair is thick and I have a lot of it I just need growth so I will try out some of your suggestions, i'm just so impatient. Need to see you soon btw, going to email you now!

  2. I'm really interested to see how this turns out! I've had a severe chop at the hairdressers that I instantly regretted and anything with the word 'rum' in is a winner with me!
